,.. ,
11 June-2004
AGE-NC'Project No. 95-0106 54
' ,Page,,2 of 6
Discrete soil samples were collected froin.the remaining borings at 5-foot intervals, beginning at 5'
' feet bsg, using a Geoprobe push-driven 2-inch diameter soil sampler fitted with four six-inch long
brass sleeves. Soil samples were preserved by covering'both ends of the second brass sleeve with ;
Teflon sheets, capping and sealing with tape. Each preserved'sample sleeve was labeled with soil`
' boring location;depth,time,date and sampler's initials and was stored in the chilled container under
ice:
' The remaining soil samples retrieved from the borings were visually classified on a.boring log by
an AGE geologist,in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System(USCS);the soil boring
log is provided in Appendix B. Additionally, the soil samples were field-screened fo'r the presence '
' of*volatile. or ahic compounds,using an organic vapor meter (OVM) equipped ed with a photo-
i6hizatioii-detec'tor (PID: Thermo Environmental 580A; 10.0'eV, calibrated to isobutylene); the
concentration,readings were recorded on the boring'log.
' 2.3.. GROUNDWATER SAMPLE COLLECTION _
,With'the exception.of probe boring B21,which'was advance my to'l0 feet bsg,grab,ground water
samples were collected at water-table depth(approximately. Meet bsg)and at the total depth of each
probe boring utilizing a Geoprobe water sampling,assembly fitted with a pre-cleaned one-inch
diameter 0.01=incli slotted temporary well screen: The ground water sample, was extracted by
' lowering a-Teflon hose equipped with a ball-valve through the hollow center.of the push rods into
.the screen'se.ction. The sample was collected in.three EPA-approved 40-m1 VOA vials containing
0.5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative. The collected-ground water samples were
' ,labeled."with'the boring designation, date, time, 'and sampler's initials and placed in a chilled {
container under ice.
2.4.' LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF-SOIL AND GRAB GROUND WATER SAMPLES
' The soil and grab groundwater samples were transported under chain-of-custody procedures to Cal
Tech'E-nvironmental`.Laboratories, a,Califoniia'•Department of Health.Services.(DHS)-certified.
laboratory; the grab ground water samples and selected soil samples were analyzed for:
' Total -petroleum hydrocarbons quantified.as gasoline(TPH-g) in.accordance With,EPA
Method 8015 Modified; and `
• Benzene, toluene, ethyibenzene and xylenes:(BTEX); an the`fuel additives MTBE, di-
isopropyl' ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiarybutyl ether (ETBE), :tertiary-amyl methyl ether.
' (TAME), tertiary butanol (TBA);" ethylene dibromide, (EDB) and 1,2-diehloroethane
(1,2-DCA) in accordance with,EPA Method 8260B:
' Advanced GeoEnviron mental,Inc.
