(b) Any designared gavernmenr employee who obtains information in the course of his omcial duties revealing the illegal discharge or threatened :illegal discharge of a hazardous waste within the geographical area of his jurisdiction and who 'mows that such discharge or threarened discharge is likely to cause subsranrial injury to the public health or safety musr, within seventy- two hours, dsciose such informaricn to the local Board of Sune_rvsors and to rhe local health officer. No disclosure of information_is required under this subdivision when oche--wise proiZoired by law, or when law enfornemenr personnel have determined char such disclosure would adversely aifect an ongoing criminal investigation, or when the information is already gene_rail public knowledge within rhe localiry affected by the discharge or threatened dscha-oe. (c) Any designared government emricyee who knowingly and inrenrionally fails to disclose informarier_ required to the disclosed ;ruder subdivision Co) shall, uman conviction, be punished by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than ore year or by imprisonment in srare prison for not more than three years.
