This work plan will be submitted to ARCO, the San
Joaquin County Health Department, and the California Regional Water
Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region. Before commencing work
_:_ E at the site, all necessary permits will be gacquiredand an
Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized Release (Leak)/Contamination
Site Report (Form HSC 05 (10/851 ) will be completed.
Boreholes
N:
Brown and Caldwell (BC) will supervise the drilling of at least
three boreholes and the installation of groundwater monitoring wells
f # in each of the boreholes at the site. Locations will be determined
based on the results of the vapor survey. The boreholes will be
drilled using a truck-mounted drilling rig equipped with 8-inch-
outside-diameter, 4-inch-inside-diameter hollow-stem augers.
P The depth. to . groundwater is approximately 12 feet. Borehole s
depth is not expected to be deeper than 35 feet. Soil samples will ?
be collected at 5--foot intervals, formation permitting.
Sail SamplingProce3ures e
Soil samples will be taken at the surface and every 5 feet during a
drilling. Samples will be obtained using an 18--inch-long split-spoon
drive .sampler. Three 2-inch-diameter by 6-inch--long brass tubes will
¢' he fitted into the drive sampler. 3
p The sampler will be driven into
undisturbed soil to obtain the soil samples. Sample tubes will Then
E' be removed from the sampler, the ends visually inspected in the field
to. identify lithology, and capped with aluminum foil and plastic caps
to provide an airtight seal.. If visible hydrocarbons or odor are d
i present, it will be noted. Before sealing, the soil samples will be
tested for hydrocarbon vapor concentrations using a photoionization
detector. Lithologic logs will be constructed for each borehole. 4
Each sample will be labeled on site to show the date, project number,
sample location, and depth interval. The sealed samples will be
-
stored _on__icein -closed__-chests- and- protected-from-meltwater. - - -
cy
