Additional analyses may be required of the stockpile sample for disposal
purposes. Tl-ie samples will be delivered to an analytical laboratory (certified by the California
Department of Health Ser,-ices)within 48 hours of collection.
Groundwater Sampling
e After the boreholes reach 5 feet below first-encountered groundwater,a groundwater sample
will be collected from each borehole using the"hydropunch" technique. This technique utilizes
a disposable weff screen to collect groundwater at a specific depth. 7be hydropunch tool is
i driven into undisturbed soil by hammer or hydraulics. The protective well casing is pulled back
to expose the screened interval. The groundwater sample is collected by bailer after the
hydropunch casing is filled wit.'t water ( rrt-- - jfff ax.nplevirRl T>"e ariaTyz -ffi 7?11;D
E1i?AAiethods 35It1/8015.rttddi.anc"i.$02 ``res°pectively. '1 - ' f
In addition to the hydropunch sample, groundwater samples will be collected from each of
the three existing monitoring wells on the site. At least three casing volumes of groundwater will
be purged from each well prior to sampling. The pH, temperature, and electrical conductivity
of the water will be measured periodically during the purging.
The groundwater sample will be obtained with disposable bailers equipped with a bottom
emptying valve. To release water from the bailer with minimal aeration, the protrusion on rhe
bottom-emptying device actuates the bottom check valve and regulates the flow into the sample
l
bottle:
The sample bottle will be obtained precleaned from the analytical laboratory, and it will be
! specific with respect to size and material to the type of analysis to be performed_ The bottle will
be carefully filled to the very top, in order to create a meniscus, and sealed with a teflon lined
cap (septa). Thew precautions aid in eliminating air from the sample. The sample will be
j visually inspected to ensure that no air bubbles remain within. Samples will be labeled, stored,
and transported in cooled ice chests to the analytical laboratory under proper chain-of-custody
procedures.
-__..,Purged..groundwater-will be-stored in-55-gallon drums on site-prior to.disposal:--Disposal_ --- ------ - -- -- --
--- - of groundwater will be the responsibility of ARCO.
i
REPORT PREPARATION
A report will be prepared following completion of the field activities described above. The
report will describe the field methods used to drill the boreholes;hydropunch technique, and the
sampling procedures. Analytical results will be presented and discussed, and recommendations
