Box 388 Stockton, CA 95201-0388 <br /> (209) 468-3420 Jay+ -D—r—) <br /> � �lJ� <br /> { k ..1 <br /> WILLIAM P SCHULER <br /> f u <br /> GEO F SCHULER INC <br /> S OCKKTON 1 CA 95201 3 1994 <br /> RE: 1705 N BROADWAY SITE CODE: 2577 <br /> STOCKTON <br /> Dear Mr. Schuler, <br /> am in receipt of your October 5, 1994 letter regarding the underground petroleum <br /> storage tank investigation at the above referenced site. <br /> The purpose of this letter will be to provide the clarification you have requested <br /> concerning the objectives of the California Health and Safety Code Chapter 6.7 (also <br /> known as the California Underground Storage Tank Regulations, 1994). <br /> The following is a chronology of the site's activities from the date of the removal of <br /> the 2 underground storage tanks to the present. <br /> A representative from San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental <br /> Health Division (PHS-EHD) was present on 27 August 1992 for the removal of 2 <br /> underground gasoline storage tanks (1,000 gallon and 2,000 gallon). At the time of <br /> the removal, the PHS-EHD representative observed strong petroleum hydrocarbon <br /> odor and related soil contamination at 15 feet below grade on the northern end of <br /> Tank #2. The field observations further note that the steel Tank #2 had corrosion <br /> holes. <br /> On 27 October 1992, an overexcavation of the tank area was conducted under the <br /> approval of PHS-EHD. However, elevated levels of petroleum hydrocarbons were <br /> remaining at 30 feet below grade. In WHF Environmental Consultants, Inc.'s report <br /> entitled "Remedial Excavation Report" dated 19 November 1992, further site <br /> investigation was recommended. <br /> WHF Environmental Consultants, Inc. submitted a workplan for additional subsurface <br /> investigative work on 30 November 1992. <br /> PHS-EHD staff, on 8 December 1992, supplied you with a list of names and <br /> addresses of consulting firms located within the area. <br /> A DiN i3i1111 of San Joaquin('nnnh Health Care Service, <br />
