GEORGE SCHULER INC.
1705 N. Broadway, Stockton, California
Remedial Excavation Report
1.0 PROJECT IDENTIFICATION
This project involved the removal of oil contaminated soil caused by an underground
storage tank release at the property at 1705 N. Broadway in Stockton, California (Figure
1). The remedial excavation work included confirmation sampling of the floor and
sidewalls of the excavation.
1.1 Site Description and History
On August 27, 1992 SEMCO, under permit, removed two (2) underground
gasoline storage tanks along with the associated piping. Soil samples taken at 15
feet in depth disclosed high concentrations of gasoline, Benzene, Toluene,
Xylenes, and Ethyl Benzene(BTX&E).
'. A Re-Excavation Work Plan, dated October 7, 1992, was submitted by SEMCO
to the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. The work plan
proposed an excavation 25 by 25 feet wide to a maximum depth of 30 feet and
logged by WHF Environmental Consultants' registered geologist.
2.0 SCOPE OF WORK
On October 27, 1992 SEMCO re-excavated the former underground tank faciliry at
George Schuler's. WHF screened the soil with a portable PID and logged the excavaxion. l
Highly contaminated soils were encountered during the excavation but appeared to beu I
intermittent and layered instead of decreasing in concentration consistently with depth. At
a depth of 30 feet gasoline odor was still present in the soil from the floor and sidewalls of
the excavation. The excavation was terminated at this depth and samples were taken,
under the direction of the local regulatory agent. The final lateral dimensions of the
excavation were 21 by 17.5 feet (Figure 2).
'Soil samples taken, for laboratory analysis, of the side walls at varying depths were non
detect for gasoline and BTX&E. The floor sample taken at 30 feet in depth disclosed
concentrations of gasoline along with BTX(Table 1 & Appendix A).
I
