SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL-HEALTH DEPARTMENT
600 E Main Street Stockton • CA 95202
(209)468-3420•Fax:(209)468-3448• Web:www.suclov.org/ehd
EMERGENCY RESPONSE INVESTIGATION REPORT:(INCLUDE C}iRONOLOGICALHISTORY,RECOMMENDATIONS.CLEANUP and FINAL DISPOSITION)
9/2/2011 11:30am Received report of sulfuric acid spill
2pm Arrived on site. Confirmed no release outside of the secondary containment. Took photos of red
stain from the polymer(an indicative system for presence of acid)used on the secondary containment of the
Sulfuric Acid tank. Kirk stated about 10 gallons were released when the valve on the catch table under the pump j
was left opened the night before. Six bags of soda ash was used to neutralize the acid to pH between 6 to 8 before it
it can be put back into the fermentation process line and the tank. Kirk stated they will continue to add water into a
the secondary containment. Facility is still pumping the liquid into the process line and finally the fermentation tank
as I left site due to another ER incident. I told Kirk I'll be billing more time than I was on site since I had to complete
the ER Report in the office.
9/6/2011 Arrived on site and verified all liquid has been removed and placed back into fermentation tank on site.
Kirk stated the amount generated from the clean up was slightly less than 1,000 gallons. Completed Prop 65.
Revised Prop 65 since it was erroneously checked off as unincorporated.
9/8/2011 Completed ER Report. Field abated.
wvZoct Pues- P *o"^V,
-Pry IRGii C •
i
Rev.08/16/10 Page 3 of 3 ER Retort!
