Mr. Morris Allen - 2 - 8 August 2001
quality impacts. During a follow up call on 8 August,Mr. Drewes clarified that the focus of the City's
sampling was on fuel product characterization and no water quality samples were taken. Your letter also
does not describe any water quality sampling. In fact,it states that no fuel contamination entered the
waterway. This is not consistent with what we observed during our visit: we saw water and sheen at the
eastern entrance of the culvert and also in the manhole between the two railroad tracks. Therefore, there
was water all the way through the culvert and up to about 100 feet upstream of the eastern entrance of
the culvert.
i
Since Mormon Slough has not been sampled for water quality purposes, we request that you collect
water samples at the western exit of the culvert(downstream) for the following constituents: total
petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel and gasoline; benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes; and +J
polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons;and Title 22 metals' Please"submit"the results 0 10 September
2001.
If you have any questions, you may call me at (916) 255-3398 or e-mail me at
isorenp@rb5s.swrcb.ca.gov.
PHILIP IS&NA
LIKI
Associate Engineer j
i
cc: Mr. Dennis DeAnda,Department of Fish and Game, Rancho Cordova
Mr. Harlin Knoll, San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Stockton
Ms. Michelle Sterni, San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Stockton
Mr. Charles Kelley, San Joaquin County Public Works Department, Stockton
Mr. Kent Miller, Stockton Fire Department, Stockton
Mr. Abdul Sakoor, Islamic Center, Stockton
j
