We are
monitoring the assessment and cleanup activities to see if the subsurface release was also contained at the release site
or if it followed a subsurface preferential pathway, such as the pipeline trench. We are also determining the location of
known nearby water wells, just in case. And, as you are probably aware, we are fielding media inquiries as they come in.
EHD responded to a previous release from this pipeline in the same general location in May of 2015. Approximately 50
gallons of oil was released at that time, the result of a pump fire. The Regional Water Board staff oversaw the cleanup.
Also, an FYI—the City of Tracy is planning a new subdivision, called Tracy Hills, in the hills about three miles south of this
location, east and west of Interstate 580 and north of Corral Hollow Road. There are two petroleum pipelines, including
this one, and one natural gas pipeline running through this proposed subdivision. They are planning on having
residential lots 13 feet off the center line of this pipeline in that subdivision. I have expressed my concerns about the
close proximity of residential uses to an active petroleum pipeline with known past releases to the City of Tracy planning
and they have taken them into consideration, but I believe the development is moving forward as planned.
I
