Groundwater Technology was retained by UPS to observe the underground storage tanks
and collect soil samples for laboratory analyses. A Site Location Map (Figure 1) and a Site Plan (Figure
2) are included in Attachment A.
On August 30, 1991, Groundwater Technology collected 4 soil samples from the bottom and side
walls of two open excavations and one soil sample from a soil stockpile on the subject property.
Figures 2, 3, and 4 show the sample designations and locations (Attachment A). The samples were
collected using a portable hand-operated impact sampler fitted with a 2-inch diameter by 6-inch long
brass tube. Each sample was subsequently screened for volatile organic hydrocarbons using a photo-
ionization detector (PID),then sealed, labeled, and placed on ice for transported under chain-of-custody
for analyses at West Laboratories in Davis, California or Coast-to-Coast Analytical Services in San Luis
Obispo, California. Soil samples were analyzed for the constituents listed in the following table:
CONSTITUENT SAMPLE IDENTIFICATION
W-1 SP-1 GG=1 GG=2 GG=3
BTEX X X X X X
TPH-G - X X X X
TPH-D X - - -
TPH-Motor Oil X - - -
Organic Lead - X X X X
VOC X
Semi-VOC X - - - -
Total Lead X X X X X
EDB - X X X X
Hex.
