Subsurface investigation at Stagg High School, 1.621
Brookside Road, Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Wong:
ATC Associates Inc. has prepared this workplan, on behalf of Stockton Unified School District
(SUSD) for the performance of subsurface investigation activities-at Stagg High School, 1621
Brookside Road, Stockton, California (Figure 1). The purpose of the subsurface investigation is
to evaluate the vertical and horizontal extent of petroleum impacted soil andgroundwater in the
vicinity of the former underground storage tank(UST). This work being done at the direction of
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) in
correspondence dated July 21, 2000:
The scope of work includes obtaining permits, advancing five soil borings and collecting soil and
groundwater samples, laboratory analysis of selected soil and groundwater samples, and preparing
a summary report. The scope of work is described in detail in the following paragraphs.
The site is located on the north side Brookside Avenue and the east. side of McGaw Street,
Stockton California, as shown on Figure 1. Stagg High School currently occupies the site.
Back-around
In December 1990, one 500-gallon unleaded gasoline underground storage tank (UST) and all
associated piping and dispensing equipment was removed and disposed of. Laboratory analysis of
a soil sample collected from beneath the former UST location indicated the presence of detectable
concentrations total petroleum hydrocarbons. .After the tank was removed, the area of the former
tank was backfilled.
On August 14 and 15, 1997, four soil borings to 25 feet below ground surface (bgs) were
advanced. The soil borings were advanced using a truck mounted Geoprobe® narrow diameter
rig employing direct push technology. Soil samples were submitted for analysis and samples from
wA17292.0002 \.tp.aoc 1
