tar 1 . 0 INTRODUCTION/PREVIOIIS WORK <br /> This report is being submitted in response to a request by the <br /> San Joaquin Local Health District to con&jr_t a :3ite, investigation <br /> on the grounds of Stephens Anchorage . <br /> 17 <br /> Three underground file-1 tanks, two 4 , 000 gallon regular g,=kNoline <br /> and a 4, 000 gallon diesel , were: removed in December 1988 . A <br /> 1, 000 gallon premium gasoline tank was removed in April 1988 . <br /> This has tank also contained 18 :1 gas/oil mixture . The four <br /> .- tanks are approximately 25 years old . Upon removal, strong <br /> hydrocarbons odor was detected and a sheen was noted beneath the <br /> tanks . soil samples taken from both ends of. the 4, 000 gallon <br /> tanks and from the middle of the 1, 000 gallon tank recorded <br /> elevated concentration of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, <br /> xylenes (BTEX) and total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline <br /> (Table 1 ) . Diesel Contamination was recorded in one sample from <br /> the west end of tank 2 (Figure 2) .
