South San Joaquin Irrigation District April 9 2017 <br /> DRAFT Lead Assessment&Abatement Work Plan <br /> 1.0 Background <br /> Depending on availability and demand, South San Joaquin Irrigation District (SSJID) delivers <br /> approximately 230,000 acre-feet (AF) of irrigation water annually to 57,000 acres of irrigated <br /> agriculture for 3,000 customers in the Escalon, Manteca and Ripon areas. Water is released during <br /> the growing season from March to October from Woodward Reservoir and gravity flows east to <br /> west via the 18.3 mile long SSJID Main Distribution Canal ("Canal"). The Canal connects to 150 <br /> miles of concrete-lined conveyance channels and 360 miles of pipelines that deliver irrigation water <br /> to growers. <br /> On January 4, 2017 San Joaquin Environmental. Health Department (SJCEHD) staff observed lead <br /> (Pb) shot pellets on the banks and at the waterline of the Canal located north of 25187 East River <br /> Road in Escalon, CA.
