Soil Investiga•and Background Groundwater Monitorir*ell Installation Workplan
January 17, 2007
C A M B R I A
on the north and northwest, San Joaquin River on the west, Stanislaus River on the south, and
consolidated bedrock on the east. The San Joaquin River flows northward into the Sacramento and
San Joaquin Delta and discharges into the San Francisco Bay.The beneficial uses of the Mokelumne
River downstream of the Camanche Reservoir to the Delta include:municipal and domestic supply;
agricultural supply including both irrigation and stock watering;water contact and non-body contact
recreation; warm freshwater aquatic habitat; cold freshwater aquatic habitat; migration of aquatic
organisms(both warm and cold habitats),warm and cold habitat spawning,reproduction,and/or early
development; and wildlife habitat.
The Mokelumne River is located approximately 170 feet south of the proposed
® infiltration/evaporation pond.Based on local topography and the location of the Mokelumne River,
groundwater within the vicinity of the site is inferred to flow to the south-southwest toward the river
and is anticipated to be between approximately 15 and 25 feet below grade (fbg). During the
November 2005 investigation, groundwater was not encountered at the maximum explored depth of
61h feet in the test pits.
PROPOSED SCOPE OF WORK
The objectives of this investigation are to advance a soil boring in the center of the proposed
infiltration/evaporation pond to determine infiltration characteristics by measuring physical properties
and soil types beneath the pond, and to install a network of groundwater monitoring wells to
determine baseline groundwater quality, depth, and flow direction. In addition, the wells will be used
to conduct slug tests to determine the shallow aquifer's hydrologic characteristics. Once the
infiltration/evaporation pond is operational, the wells will be used to monitor the pond's influence on
local groundwater. The wells will be installed upgradient(to the north) and downgradient (to the
south and southwest)of the proposed infiltration/evaporation pond(Figure 2). Cambria proposes the
following tasks to complete this scope of work:
Site Health and Safety Plan: To protect the public and site personnel during the fieldwork, a site-
specific Site and Safety Plan (SSP)will be distributed to all members of the project team. The SSP
addresses physical health threats posed by drilling. The SSP also prescribes appropriate personal
protective equipment(PPE) to protect site workers.
Permits: Prior to initiating field activities, Cambria will obtain boring and well permits for the
proposed wells from the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department.
4
