(GeoAudit) has prepared
this report for the remediation of petroleum hydrocarbon impacted soil currently stockpiled
at 12570 West Byron Road.
INTRODUCTION
From November 30 to December 1, 1993, approximately 125 cubic yards of soil were
excavated from the location of the former underground storage tank (UST) at 12570 West
Byron Road in Tracy, California (the site). The soil was divided into three stockpiles and
placed on plastic sheeting. On December 1, 1993, one sample was collected from each of
the three stockpiles. Stockpile SP1 was later separated into stockpiles SP1 and SP4. The soil
is currently separated into four treatment cells.
PROCEDURES
The degradation of several hydrocarbon products by bacteria is a well documented process.
Treatment cells are constructed with polyethylene liners, and the soil is piled between two
and three feet high. Twelve to 16 species of microbes, in a liquid broth culture are
inoculated in the treatment cells, and the piles are covered with polyethylene sheeting. By
utilizing the carbon present in the hydrocarbons as their source of food, the aerobic bacteria
generate by-products, which are simple and non-hazardous, such as water, carbon dioxide
and biomass. -
Geological Audit Services,Inc.
792-SCALD-BIO.RPT
Full Spectrum Environmental Services• Hydrogeology
