•J
SITE SUMMARY REPORT
CALDRON'S GENERAL STORE
12570 West Byron Road
J Tracy, California
1.0 INTRODUCTION
In accordance with a request from Mr. Frank Caldron, owner of Caldron's General Store,
Geological Audit Services, Inc. (GeoAudit) has prepared this report for activities conducted
at 12750 West Byron Road in Tracy, California (the Site).
2.0 BACKGROUND
2.1 Land Use
The site is located in the relatively flat rural area of Tracy, in southwestern San Joaquin
County (Figure 1). A small general store, a barn and a railroad car, used for storage, are
currently located on the property.
2.2 Underground Storage Tank Removal
It is our understanding that two (2) 2,000-gallon underground storage tanks (USTs) were
removed from the site on November 11, 1991, by Thorpe Oil of Lodi, California. The tanks
were used to dispense premium unleaded gasoline (tank #1) and regular unleaded gasoline
(tank #2). According to the San Joaquin County Public Health Services - Environmental
Health Division (PHS/EHD), tank #2 was "corroded and contained 1/2-inch holes at the
bottom, south end of the tank" (PHS/EHD correspondence dated June 22, 1992). The
PHS/EHD also indicated that soil discoloration and a petroleum odor were noted at the
time of tank removal.
Soil samples collected beneath the USTs indicate that an unauthorized release of
hydrocarbons has occurred.Total petroleum hydrocarbons(TPH as gasoline)were detected
at 2.8 mg/kg (parts per million, ppm) in one sample. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and
xylenes were also detected in this sample. A site plan with soil sample locations is shown on
Figure 2. "
Groundwater was encountered in the tank excavation and a grab sample indicated that
groundwater has been impacted. Toluene and xylenes were detected in the water sample at
0.5 ppb and 1.2 ppb, respectively. The analytical results are summarized on Table 1.
C"6s-1 A.&s.—.,1- 1
