A
backhoe and operator were supplied by Stokley Construction of Tracy. Excavation was
centered in the area of the former underground storage tanks (USTs). A photo-ionization
detector (PID) was used to screen the excavated soil for the presence of volatile
hydrocarbon vapors and direct the backhoe.Excavation was terminated when no vapors were
detected. Soil was excavated to a depth of seven to eight feet.Approximately 125 cubic yards
of impacted soil were removed from the excavation.
~ At the direction of Mr. Steve Sasson of the PHS/EHD, five soil samples were collected from
the sidewalls of the excavation. Sample W-1 was collected directly from the wall of the
excavation. The other four samples were collected from the backhoe bucket. Samples were
collected in pre-cleaned 2-inch by 3-inch brass tubes. For each sample, both ends of the
sample tube were covered with aluminum sheets, capped and sealed with tape. The samples
were stored on ice and transported under chain-of-custody in a chilled container to Alpha
Analytical Laboratories (AAL) in Ukiah, California for analysis. All soil samples from the
site were collected, preserved and transported in a similar manner. Each sample was
- analyzed for TPH as gasoline and BTE&X. The sample from the most northerly portion of
the excavation (N-1) was also analyzed for TPH as diesel and motor oil. The sample
locations are shown on Figure 3.
0..i.y.1 n.&s.M.K aI— 4
CALIMO —OM-n
