1 Water was encountered during excavation and stabilized at a?depth of 6 feet. One water (grab) sample was collected from the excavation and analyzed for TPH as gasoline and BTE&X. i 3.2 Stockpiled Soil Sampling a Soil from the excavation was stockpiled in three piles near toe rear of the property. One sample was collected from each stockpile. The samples were transported to AAL and analyzed for TPH as gasoline and BTE&X. The sample locations are shmn on Figure 3. 3.3 Bloremediation or Stockpiled Soil On May 1.7, 1994,the stockpiled soil was inoculated with a bacteria medium to promote the degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons. Approximately 250 gallons of inocubmt were sprayed over the sail piles.The inoculation was performed by r.Jim Hoeltgen,GeoAudifs consulting microbiologist. After inoculation was completed, the piles were covered with plastic sheeting. Stockpile SPI was later separated into stock0iles SPI and SP4. 4 3.4 Bioremediation M[ooitoring k l Bioremediation progress was monitored by collecting soil samples from the inoculated soil.. Four sets of oonf'irmatory samples were collected from the Heated so al between June and December 1994. Two samples were collected from each sto pile and composited at the laboratory for analysis during each sampling event.The sampls were then and transported to McCampbell Analytical Inc. (MAI)in Pacheco, California ir analysis. Stockpile sample locations for June and August 1994 are shown on Figure 4. ample locations for October and December 1994 are shown on Figure 5. 3.5 Excavation Backfilling Procedures With the approval of the PHSIEHD, stockpiles SP-3 ands SP-4 were returned to the excavation on September 16, 1994.Additional soil was removod from beneath stockpile SP- 4, and clean soil was imported to bring the excavation to surfa grade.A layer of road base was then placed over the backfill material to farm a gravel su ce.The hole created on-site from the excavation of additional backfill material was lined with plastic,and stockpile SP-1 was moved to this location. 3.6 Drilling and Sampling On October 18, 1994,three soil borings were drilled at the si � . Borings MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 were advanced to depths of 20 feet and completed as 0oundwater monitoring wells. .Auger returns were placed on plastic sheeting and stoned on-bite.
