The 150 yards of contaminated soil has been
stockpiled on site in three locations pending remediation procedures. One stockpile was
placed within 10 feet of the site drinking water well. PHS/EHD recommends that the soil
stockpile be removed from the well location prior to remediation of the stockpile. Please
submit a workplan to PHS/EHD within 30 days of the date of this letter regarding
remediation of all the contaminated soils.
Due to the presence of groundwater in the excavation at both the time of the tank removal
and during the over excavationa groundwater investigation is required. There is currently
an approved workplan and a permit for installation of three 2 inch PVC monitoring wells.
Installation of the monitoring wells shall begin within 30 days of the date of this letter.
The detection limits used for the analysis of groundwater samples from the monitoring wells
shall be Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene .5 parts per billion (ppb); total
petroleum hydrocarbon-gasoline (TPH-g) 50 ppb. In addition, water from the on site
domestic drinking water well shall be sampled and analyzed for TPH-g and BTEX at the
same detection limits as the on site monitoring wells.
A well survey showing the location of all domestic, agricultural and municipal wells within
2,000 feet of the site has not been submitted to PHS/EHD please include this in the next
report.
PHS-EHD has reviewed the laboratory analysis of the soil sample obtained from the
drainage ditch. The analysis revealed the contaminants to be motor oil and diesel with a
trace of gasoline.
