The project location is shown on Figure 1 (Appendix A). The objective of the
work was to assess the presence and level of impacted soil and ground water along the
planned trenching alignment.
1 . Background
1 .1 The proposed trench is located along the south side of Byron Road, west of Corral
Hollow Road, in Tracy California.
1 .2 Previous work along Byron Road by others (ChevronTexaco) indicates that soil and
ground water in the area can be impacted by fuel hydrocarbons from leaks in a
(former) pipeline. The pipeline runs along the Southern Pacific railroad line, parallel
to Byron Road.
1 .3 ECM was retained to evaluate and characterize soil and ground water conditions
along the planned trench. The characterization data will be used to support health
and safety planning during trenching.
1 .4 ECM obtained a permit for the work from the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department (County). The permit conditions included specifications for
backfilling the borings using hydrated bentonite chips. A copy of the permit is
included in Appendix A.
290 West Channel Drive, Benicia, Ca. 94510 »707-751-0655 s 707-751 -0653 (fax)
