Subsurface Results
Byron Road Trenching Alignment, Tracy California
and vapor. Worker exposure could be reduced by using a trench liner or trench
box in the work zone, or by completing work above grade or limiting trench entry.
Vapors from the heavy hydrocarbons can be strong and noxious. Mitigation
measures include good ventilation in the trench, use of personal protection gear
(respirators), and use of water or foaming agents to reduce odors from the
exposed soil and ground water. Vapor monitoring using the PID could help
determine whether to implement vapor suppression measures.
Workers for the trench project should have appropriate training for encountering
regulated compounds, such as Hazwoper occasional site worker training.
4.4 Trench spoils will be impacted with hydrocarbons and should be handled as
regulated wastes. Ground water, if encountered, should be considered impacted
and managed as a regulated waste. Exposure to these wastes should be limited
by encapsulating stockpiles in visqueen, and storing ground water in a Baker tank
or similar.
ECM is available to review and discuss these results with PG&E staff at your
convenience. Thank you for the opportunity to provide services for this project. Please
call if you have any questions.
Sincerely
ECM roup
Chris J.
