' APPENDIX D.1
DATA USABILITY SUMMARY
' INTRODUCTION
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)evaluated the analytical data for soil,
groundwater, and water-matrix quality control (QC) samples collected at the Tracy Byron Road site in
' Tracy,California. This data usability summary presents the results of the data validation process. SAIC
collected environmental samples on behalf of Chevron Environmental Management Company to
delineate the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum-affected soil and groundwater. Samples were
collected between March 12 and 13, 2007.
The total number of samples collected was as follows:
• Eleven soil samples
• Six groundwater samples
' • One groundwater field duplicate sample
• Three water-matrix trip blank samples
• Two water-matrix equipment rinsate blanks
' Lancaster Laboratories, Inc. (Lancaster)performed all the analyses on the samples. The data were
reported in five sample delivery groups (SDGs): 1029184, 1029539, 1028980, 1029537, and 1029183.
Lancaster is certified by the State of California through the Department of Health Services to perform
' environmental analyses.
Soil samples were analyzed for the following constituents:
' • Benzene, toluene,ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX) by U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA)Method SW8260B.
• Methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE) by EPA SW8260B.
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as crude oil (TPHc), carbon ranges C7-Cr6, C16-C32,and
CIO-C36by EPA Method SW8015B modified.
• Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by EPA Method SW8270C with selective ion
monitoring(SW8270C-SIM).
t • Metals by EPA Method SW6010B.
Groundwater samples were analyzed for one or more of the following constituents:
• BTEX by EPA Method SW8260B.
• MTBE by EPA Method SW8260B.
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel (TPHd),carbon range Cro-C25,by EPA Method
' SW8015B modified; a silica gel-cleanup procedure based on EPA Method SW3630C was also
performed on samples with TPHd detections(TPHdsg)to remove non-target biogenic compound.
• PAHs by EPA Method SW8270C with large-volume injection (SW8370C-LVI).
• General minerals by EPA Method 200.7.
' • Total dissolved solids (TDS)by EPA Method 160.1.
The trip blank samples were only analyzed for BTEX,MTBE,and TPHg by EPA Method SW8260B.
Page D.1-1
' From science to solutions
