The work was performed by Geomatrix
Consultants, Inc. (Geomatrix) on behalf of the Chevron Pipe Line Company(CPL) in accordance with the
Geomatrix 30 August 1996 "Well Abandonment Work Plan, Highiet/Monterosso Parcel, Tracy,
California." The wells were abandoned in response to requirements for closure outlined in a 23 July 1996
letter from the San Joaquin County Public Health Services-Environmental Health Division.
s
Background
The four monitoring wells were installed by Levine-Fricke on 24 May 1990 at the locations shown on
Figure 2. Well construction details were presented in t1€e Levine-Fricke 27 July 1990 "Report on
Ground-Water Investigations, Sunboro Development Corporation Parcel B Tracy, California." The
monitoring wells were 2 inches in diameter and constructed of schedule 40 polyvinyl chloride well casing
and screen with 0.02-inch perforations. The top of the perfo, ted interval of each well ranged from 5.5 to
8 feet below ground surface (bgs) and the bottom of the wells ranged from 15.5 to 19 feet bgs. The filter
material (Lonestar 43)extended approximately 2 feet above the top of the well screen and a bentonite seal
approximately 2 feet thick was placed above the filter pack. The remaining annulus was filled with
cement/bentonite grout.
Well Abandonment
The wells were permanently abandonment on 11 September 1996. Well abandonment services were
provided by Water Development Corporation of Woodla rid, California, a California C57 licensed
contractor. Each monitoring well was abandoned by removing the above-ground monuments and pulling
the well casing and screen from the ground. After removing the monuments and casing, an approximately
11-inch diameter boring was drilled using a hollow stem auger to remove the grout, bentonite, and filter
Geomatrix Consultants, Inc.
En sneers,Geoloaafists,and Environmental Scientists
f{:U16FFERSW3499LRP.
odC
