WORK PLAN
SUNBORO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
CORRAL HOLLOW AND BYRON ROADS
TRACY, CALIFORNIA
August, 1988
Introduction:
The Sunboro Development Corporation's attorneys, Adleson, Hess, Christianson
and Kelly, Attorney' s at Law, 110 North Third Street, San Jose, California,
95112, have engaged Terrestrial Technology, Inc. , to perform the following
field work and report writing that will identify and describe the subsurface
soil condition along a line approximately 125 feet south of Byron Road in
Tracy, California (see map, Exhibit A) .
This line, or an adjusted alignment, will be established to delineate between
a contaminated soil mass along the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way
and a noncontaminated soil mass south of Byron Road--a portion of which is
proposed for subdivision development. Following are descriptions of the
proposed work and report to be provided by Terrestrial Technology, Inc. ,
to the law firm of Adleson, Hess, Christianson and Kelly.
Task Descriptions:
1. A surveyed line will be established approximately 125 feet south of the
south right-of-way boundary of Byron Road. The line will begin at Corral
Hollow Road and run northwest parallel to Byron Road for a distance of
approximately 2,000 feet to the west boundary of the Sunboro Development
Corporation's property. Beginning at Corral Hollow Road, points on the
above line will be established at approximately 200 feet intervals.
These points will be identified by using engineering stationing with
offsets, if necessary.
2. Soil borings to depths of 25 feet will be made at the 200± foot intervals
using a 6 or 8 inch hollow stem auger. It is believed that contamination
may have occurred in this area at depths to 20' or more before the
groundwater level rose to its current elevation due to irrigation. These
soil boring holes will be filled with bentonite pellets to the top of
the groundwater level . In the cases 1where drilling is more than 10'
below the groundwater level , this bentoniting will be done by tremie
effect. The remainder of the soil boring will be sealed with a concrete
bentonite slurry to surface to the satisfaction of the San Joaquin Local
Health District. The augers will be team cleaned after each hole is
bored. The driller, with a C-57 California Contractor's License, will
be a person of extensive experience in performing soils borings and soil
sampling. The truck-mounted boring machine will be equipped with a split
spoon sampler suitable for taking continuous core samples. Soil tailings
removed from the ground will be treated as contaminated and stored in
barrels. These containers will be capped and stored on site until
Page 1 of 3
