Parcel B is located southwest of the intersection of Byron
and Corral Hollow Roads in Tracy, California ("the Site" ; see
Figure 1) .
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the services described below is to provide
cost estimates for the remediation of the petroleum-affected
soils at the Site'. To provide these costs estimates, the
volume of petroleum-affected soil will be better assessed.
The unit soil treatment cost and the cost to mitigate further
petroleum migration as to the Site will be evaluated.
BACKGROUND
In April 1988, petroleum compounds were encountered in site
soils along Byron Road during the installation of a City of
Tracy water pipeline across the Site. A subsequent
investigation by Terrestrial Technology Incorporated (TTI)
confirmed the existence of the compounds. The TTI
investigation (1988) included drilling a row of nine soil
borings about 125 feet south of Byron Road and drilling three
soil borings in the vicinity of the City water pipeline
(Figure 2) .
The TTI investigation did not detect petroleum in the nine
borings 125 feet south of Byron Road or in the borings located
28 and 53 feet south of Byron Road. However, petroleum
hydrocarbons were detected in a soil sample collected from the
boring located 11 feet south of Byron Road at a depth of 6
feet. Although the source of petroleum hydrocarbons in site
soils was not identified in the TTI report, TTI noted that
petroleum-affected soils were also encountered under the
railroad right-of-way (adjacent to a petroleum pipeline)
immediately north of Byron Road.
f
