LEVINEā¢FRICKE
compounds in soil samples from the Site using biological
treatment processes. Laboratory process treatment conditions
will be varied in order to assess the optimum conditions for
field implementation of a bioremediation program for the
petroleum-affected soils. The results of the biotreatability
studies will be used to estimate the duration of the soil
treatment activities and the cost associated with this
treatment.
Task 3: Evaluation of Slurry Nall Barriers
Based upon our experience and the preliminary literature
review we have conducted concerning the ability of
soil-bentonite slurry walls (SBSWs) to act as a barrier to
heavy petroleum products, it is our opinion that a SBSW would
serve as an effective barrier. However, prior to a final
design, a laboratory compatibility testing program is
recommended.
Task 4: Project Management and Meetings
Included in this task are scheduling and oversight of the
tasks described above, cost tracking, and interface with
Sunboro and their legal counsel. The project manager for this
project will be Mr. John Sturman, Senior Project Geotechnical
Engineer, who will oversee the investigative work and be the
primary contact for Sunboro. Mr. Charles Pardini, Project
Geologist, will coordinate field work and assist Mr. Sturman
with data evaluation. Mr. Jeffrey Thomas, Senior Project
Scientist, will direct the biotreatability studies. Mr. Ted
Splitter, P.E. and Principal Geotechnical Engineer, will
review the work related to the soil characterization and the
slurry wall evaluation. Mr. James D. Levine, P.E. , Principal
Engineer and President of Levineā¢Fricke, will assist Mr.
Sturman.
Task 5: Data Evaluation and Report Preparation
Based upon the data collected, a report will be prepared by
Levine-Fricke to present the methods and results of our
investigation, our conclusions and recommendations to Sunboro,
and the estimated costs associated with remediation of the
petroleum-affected soils at the Site.
SCHEDULE
We estimate that the Scope of Work outlined above will be
completed within three to four months of the initiation of
field work. Results from the field work portion of the
project should be available within about one month of
commencement of this work.
4 _
