Appendix E.1:Data Usability Summary
Sample SB-5-S-13-080318 had TPH standard orthoterphenyl and BTEX 4-bromofluorobenzene above
the QC criteria and was flagged E for detected analytical results. Samples SB-9-S-26-031908, SB-10-S-
18-080320, SB-15-S-19-080324, SB-18B-S-20.5-080326, SB-21-S-5-080327, SB-21-S-6-080327,
SB-21-S-7.5-080327, and SB-22-S-4.5-080327 had TPH standard orthoterphenyl above the QC criteria
and was flagged E for analytical results. In addition, SB-10-S-18-080320, SB-16-S-23-080325, S13-21-S-
5-080327, SB-21-S-7.5-080327, and SB-22-S-4.5-080327 had PAH surrogate terphenyl-d14 and or
2-fluorobiphenyl above QC criteria; all positive results will be flagged J. Samples SB-2-W-080317MS
and SB-2-W-080317MSD had orthoterphenyl slightly above the QC criteria;however,no flags were
applied because the original sample was within range. Samples QA-Screen-R-080317, SB-2-W-0803317,
and QA-0-083118 had terphenyl-dl4 above the QC criteria, but the samples were already flagged E due
other QC issues so no additional flags were necessary. The LCS/LCSD pair analyzed with batch 1082852
had orthoterphenyl above the QC criteria range but all samples surrogates were within range and no flags
were applied. All other surrogates recoveries were within range.
Internal Standards
Calibration and internal standard performance were not verified for every result included in this review;
however, the laboratory noted that the internal standard area counts were outside of the QC limits for the
initial for the analysis of PAHs by SW8270C-SIM in samples QA-Tubing-R-080317, SB-1-W-080317,
QA-Screen-R-080317, SB-2-W-080317, SB-2-W-080317MS, SB-2-W-080317MSD, SB-3-W-080317,
QA-o-080318, SB-4-W-080317, QA-Tubing-R-080319, and QA-Tubing-R-080324. The samples were
re-analyzed and the internal standards were again outside the criteria, indicating matrix interference.
PAH results in the sample were qualified E.
Representativeness
Representativeness was assessed through the evaluation of method blank samples; trip, field, and rinsate
blank samples; chain-of-custody forms;preservation; and holding times. The reported results were also
compared to the laboratory's MDLs and LOQs.
Method Blank Results
Laboratory method blanks were evaluated for any detections above the laboratory MDL. Data were not
qualified if a target compound was detected in the method blank and not detected in a sample result.
Phenanthrene was detected in the method blank at a concentration of 0.0036 micrograms per liter(µg/L);
samples S13-8-W-080319 and SB-8-WD-080319 had concentrations less than 10 times found in the blank
and were flagged E. The method blank associated samples QA-Screen-R-080327, SB-23W-080328, and
S13-28-W-080401 had detections of TPHd at concentrations similar to that found in the samples and the
results were flagged E.
Field QC Results
Eight rinsate blanks (QA-Screen-R-080317, QA-Tubing-R-080317, QA-Tubing-R-080319,QA-Screen-
R-080320, QA-Tubing-R-08321, QA-Tubing-R-08324, QA-Tubing-R-08325,and QA-Screen-R-08326),
seven trip blanks (QA-T-080317, QA-T-080318, QA-T-080319, QA-T-080321, QA-T-080324, QA-T-
080325, and QA-T-080326), and one field blank(QA-0-080318)were submitted with the field
groundwater samples. The rinsate samples, trip blank and field blank samples were free of contamination
with the following exception: rinsate blank QA-Screen-R-080320 had detections of naphthalene and
dibenz(a,h)anthracene, but associated samples had no detections of either analyte and therefore no flags
were applied. Rinsate blank QA-Screen-R-080326 had detections of TPH,naphthalene, fluorene, and
Phenanthrene;however,no detections of these analytes were found in associated samples so no flags were
applied. Rinsate blanks QA-Screen-R-080327 and QA-Tubing-R-080328 associated with sample SB-23-
W-080328 and SB-24-W-080328 had detections of TPH,naphthalene, and phenanthrene and were
flagged E. Rinsate blank QA-Screen-R-080331 associated with samples S13-26-W-080331 and S13-28-
W-080401 had a detection of naphthalene at a level found in the samples and was flagged E.
E.1-4
ori i wi
From Science to Solatiens
