Soil and Groundwater Investigation Report <br /> Mountain House Development Site#6 February 25,2010 <br /> were submitted to Lancaster Laboratories, Inc. (Lancaster)' under SAIC-Benham chain-of- <br /> custody protocol. <br /> Soil samples were analyzed for the following, using methods contained in EPA publication <br /> SW-846 (EPA, 2008b): <br /> • TPH quantified as crude oil (TPHc; carbon range CIO to C36)by EPA Method 8015 <br /> Modified; <br /> • BTEX by EPA Method 826013; and <br /> • PAHs by EPA Method 8270 using selective ion monitoring. <br /> Groundwater samples were analyzed for the following,using methods contained in EPA <br /> publication SW-846: <br /> • TPH quantified as diesel (TPHd; carbon range C 1 o to C25)by EPA Method 8015B <br /> Modified with and without silica-gel cleanup; <br /> • BTEX by EPA Method 8260B (using a 25-milliliter purge to attain HPP-BTR Risk <br /> Assessment Detection Limits); and <br /> • PAHs by EPA Method 8270C (using large-volume injection to attain HPP-BTR Risk <br /> Assessment Detection Limits). <br /> Select groundwater samples were also analyzed for the following water-quality parameters: <br /> • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)by EPA Method 160.1; sulfate, chloride, nitrate (as <br /> nitrogen), and nitrite (as nitrogen)by EPA Method 300.0; specific conductance by EPA <br /> Method 120.1; Kjeldahl nitrogen by EPA Method 351.2; total phosphorus by EPA 365.1; <br /> ammonia(as nitrogen)by EPA Method 350.2; alkalinity(as CaCO3),bicarbonate (as <br /> CaCO3), carbonate (as CaCO3), and hardness (as CaCO3)by SM 20 232013; and boron, <br /> sodium, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, and potassium by Method 6010B. <br /> Refer to Appendix C for more information regarding the field and sampling methods employed <br /> during the field investigation. <br /> 3.3 INVESTIGATION-DERIVED WASTE <br /> To properly store, characterize, and dispose of investigation-derived waste (IDW), SAIC- <br /> Benham: <br /> • Placed all IDW(soil cuttings and unused soil sample, disposable sampling equipment, <br /> used personal protective equipment, and decontamination water) in U.S. Department of <br /> Transportation-approved, 55-gallon drums; <br /> • Properly labeled, secured, and stored IDW-containing drums on site, pending disposal by <br /> Sturgeon& Son, Inc.; and <br /> • Coordinated removal of the drums from the site on November 28, 2009, to a temporary <br /> storage facility where they are awaiting disposal at the CEMC-approved Altamont <br /> Landfill facility. <br /> 1.
