APPENDIX E.I:
DATA USABILITY SUMMARY
INTRODUCTION
SAIC evaluated the analytical data for soil and water samples collected at Mountain House Site
#6 in Mountain House, California. This data usability summary presents the results of the data
validation process. SAIC collected environmental samples on behalf of Chevron Environmental
Management Company to delineate the lateral and vertical extent of petroleum-affected soil and
water. Soil, groundwater, and water-matrix quality control (QC) samples were collected
between November 9, 2009, and November 18, 2009. The total number of samples collected
was as follows:
• Twenty-nine soil samples
• Eight groundwater samples
• One groundwater matrix spike/matrix spike duplicate (MS/MSD) sample
• One groundwater field duplicate sample
• Five water-matrix trip blank(TB) samples
• Two equipment rinsate blanks
• One water-matrix field blank
Lancaster Laboratories, Inc., (Lancaster)performed all the analyses on the samples. The data
were reported in laboratory reports 1170490, 1170491, 1171046, 1171330, 1171672, 1171329,
1171047, 1171807, and 1171842. Lancaster is certified by the State of California, through the
Department of Health Services, to perform environmental analyses.
Soil samples were analyzed for the following constituents:
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes (BTEX)by United States
Environmental Protection Agency(EPA)Method SW8260B.
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as crude oil (TPHc), carbon range CIO-C36, by
EPA Method SW8015 modified.
• Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) by EPA Method SW8270C with selective ion
monitoring.
Groundwater and water-matrix samples were analyzed for one or more of the following
constituents:
• BTEX by EPA Method SW8260B.
• PAHs by EPA Method SW8270C with large-volume injection..
• TPH quantified as diesel (TPHd), carbon range C10-C25, by EPA Method SW8015
modified; a silica gel-cleanup procedure based on EPA Method SW3630 was also
performed on samples with TPHd detections to remove non-target biogenic compounds.
• Alkalinity,bicarbonate, and carbonate by SM20 2320 B.
• Ammonia nitrogen by SM20 4500NH3 B/C modified.
E.1-1 —– =—
Frain Science to Solutions
