Appendix E.1:Data Usability Summary
Field Duplicate
Groundwater sample SB-37-WD-091111 is a field duplicate of SB-37-W-091111.
Acenaphthene was the only target compound detected in either the parent sample or field
duplicate. The RPD for the acenaphthene was 0%,because the compound was detected at
0.016 micrograms per liter(µg/L) in both samples.
MS/MSDs
Project-specific MS/MSD samples were collected with groundwater sample SB-35-W-091110.
The %Rs for acenaphthene, acenaphthylene, fluoranthene, fluorene, naphthalene, and
phenanthrene were above the laboratory control limits in the MS and MSD. The unspiked
sample was non-detect for these compounds, so no data were qualified. The laboratory also
randomly selected project samples to prepare MS and/or MSDs for some analytical batches. All
randomly selected project samples were within laboratory control limits were one exception.
The %R for chloride was 144 percent, above the control limit of 110 percent, in the MS prepared
form sample SB-42-W-091116. There was no MSD analyzed. The result for chloride in the
sample was qualified E for a potential high bias caused by matrix interference.
Internal Standard Area Counts
Internal standard area counts were not verified for samples during this data review. However,
the laboratory noted that one of the internal standard areas were outside the QC limits for the
PAH analysis in sample FosterWell-1-W-091118. The sample was re-analyzed and the internal
standard was outside the QC limits again indicating a matrix effect. The results for
benzo(b)fluoranthene, benzo(k)fluoranthene,benzo(a)pyrene, indeno(1,2,3-cd)pyrene,
dibenz(a,h)anthracene, and benzo(g,h,i)perylene were qualified E as estimated.
Representativeness
Representativeness was assessed through the evaluation of method blank samples, trip and
equipment blank samples, chain-of-custody forms, preservation, and holding times.
Method Blank Results
Laboratory method blanks were evaluated for any detection above the laboratory MDL. No
target analytes were detected in any of the method blanks analyzed as part of this data set with
one exception. Benzo(a)pyrene was detected at 0.0035 µg/L in one method blank. The
compound was detected at similar concentrations in the associated groundwater samples SB-41-
W-091116 and SB-42-W-091116. The samples were re-extracted outside the method hold time
and benzo(a)pyrene was not detected. The results in the original analysis were qualified E to
indicate they are likely due to contamination introduced during the analysis and not
representative of field conditions.
Field QC Results
Five trip blanks, one field blank, and two equipment rinsate blanks were submitted with the
samples. No target analytes were detected in any of the field QC samples, with the following
exceptions:
• Benzo(a)pyrene, dibenz(a,h)anthracene, and phenanthrene were detected in equipment
rinsate blank QA-Tubing-R-091110. The analytes were not detected in any associated
groundwater sample SB-35-W-091110.
E.1-4 —– =—
Frain Science to Solutions
