The objective of <br /> the investigation is to determine the extent of the petroleum constituents found in boring <br /> MH4-6 adjacent to Chevron's Bay Area Products Line (BAPL). Our letter also specified <br /> that the sampling and analysis plan must include analysis for organic lead or lead <br /> scavengers, which could help determine the relative age, type, and origin of fuel-related <br /> compounds encountered during the investigation <br /> The Work Plan proposes to advance six primary borings (SB-A through SB-F) using a <br /> direct push GeoprobeO rig and to collect a groundwater sample from each borehole. <br /> Chevron proposes to advance the borings to total depths of three to five feet greater <br /> than the depth to first encountered groundwater and collect soil samples from a target <br /> depth of 12 feet below ground surface (bgs). Chevron is prepared to advance the <br /> borings to a maximum depth of 20 feet bgs, but this may vary based on conditions <br /> encountered. Groundwater samples will be collected by placing a pre-packed well <br /> screen into the borehole and using a peristaltic pump. If visually affected soil and/or <br /> groundwater are encountered in a boring, step-out borings may be advanced to conduct <br /> additional sampling. <br /> The Work Plan proposes to submit the groundwater samples for laboratory analysis for <br /> methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), lead scavengers, speciated organic lead, total <br /> petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg), TPH as diesel (TPHd) with and without <br /> silica gel cleanup, and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Four of the six <br /> borings are adjacent to the BAPL and Kinder Morgan Energy Partner (KMEP) pipeline, <br /> and soil and/or groundwater samples from these borings will undergo laboratory <br /> analysis by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).
