(KMEP). <br /> 29 January 2009 Finding of Refined Petroleum Product, Mountain House <br /> Development Site #4, Byron Road, San Joaquin County (Chevron Letter) <br /> • 30 January 2009, Mountain House Development Site #4, Byron Road, San Joaquin <br /> County California (KMEP Letter). <br /> The Letters were prepared in response to the Central Valley Water Board staff's <br /> 24 December 2008 letter requesting that Chevron and KMEP check their respective <br /> pipeline integrity records for leaks in the vicinity of Mountain House (MH) Site #4. Both <br /> Letters state that they found no information indicating that releases have occurred in the <br /> vicinity of the MH Site #4. Our 24 December 2008 letter stated that Central Valley Water <br /> Board staff would request both companies to submit soil and groundwater investigation <br /> work plans if no records of leaks were found. <br /> Despite Chevron's and KMEP's findings, investigations in November 2005 and <br /> May 2006 indicated that weathered refined and crude petroleum hydrocarbon products, <br /> including polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), are present in soil and <br /> groundwater underlying the Bay Area Products Line (BAPL), operated by the Chevron <br /> Pipeline Company (CPL), and the KMEP pipeline (KMPL). Laboratory fingerprint <br /> analysis of a soil sample showed that the product is a combination of weathered <br /> kerosene, heating fuel, diesel, and jet fuel. Chevron's previous environmental consultant <br /> (Science Applications International Corporation [SAIC]) concluded that these <br /> constituents likely originated from a leak from pipelines operated by either or both <br /> Chevron or KMEP. <br /> Central Valley Water Board staff in the Fresno office are presently overseeing cleanup <br /> of the inactive Old Valley Pipeline (OVP) located about 80 feet upgradient of the BAPL <br /> California Environmental Protection Agency <br /> Z5 Recycled Paper <br />
