The Letter requests the suspension of the approved additional analyses and a <br /> monthly sampling schedule to track the progress of the upgrades to the Soil Vapor Extraction/Air <br /> Sparging (SVEIAS) treatment system that were installed between March and July of 2008. The Letter <br /> states that the data collected for three monitoring events to evaluate the performance of the SVEIAS <br /> upgrades show the system is effective in reducing petroleum hydrocarbons. A report of the activities will <br /> be presented by 30 January 2009. On 1 December 2008, 1 contacted AECOM and requested the data <br /> supporting the conclusions stated above; and on 2 December 2008, 1 received Update to Performance <br /> Monitoring Plan (Memo) attached to an email from AECOM. The Memo states that SVE carbon usage <br /> increased to 4,000. pounds spent after 54 days; AS air pressures doubled to 80 to 100 pounds per <br /> square inch at 10 to 23 standard cubic feet per minute, allowing deeper aquifer air sparging while <br /> increasing the average daily petroleum hydrocarbons mass removal rate from 0.7 pounds per day (ppd) <br /> to 44 and146 ppd for two sample points; with a cumulative mass removal rate increase from 138 pounds <br /> (lbs) for preceding 2 '/2 years to 1,700 lbs in the first 3 months of operations. Groundwater monitoring <br /> well sample results have decreased up to four orders of magnitude during the same 3 months. The <br /> Memo requests that the SVEIAS performance monitoring be reduced to, and reported, quarterly. <br /> I concur to the recommendation to reduce the monthly SVEIAS performance monitoring to quarterly, and <br /> to report the SVE/AS performance data in the quarterly monitoring reports.
