The project sites are <br /> separated by approximately 700 feet along the former Old Valley Pipeline (OVP) right-of-way <br /> adjacent to Byron Road, and one-quarter mile southeast of Kelso Road. The OVP previously <br /> transported crude oil and Bunker C fuel oil between Kern County oil fields and refineries in the <br /> Richmond area until the 1970's. <br /> Additionally, we reviewed a November 2001 soil and groundwater investigation completed for <br /> Trimark Communities, Inc. by Condor Earth Technologies. The Condor investigation identified <br /> separate locations along the former OVP, including Mountain House Sites #4 and #5 that had <br /> been impacted by OVP leaks. <br /> Detailed comments are provided in the attached memorandum and summarized below: <br /> • Data for Site #4 indicates that soil and groundwater impacts are limited to fess than <br /> 150-feet in width and 44-feet vertically, and the former OVP, has been removed. The <br /> extent of impacted soil and groundwater associated with the OVP has been adequately <br /> delineated and additional investigative work is not needed. <br /> • Data indicates that the residual petroleum hydrocarbons in soil do not result in a <br /> significant source of TPHc constituents to groundwater. Due to the limited area of <br /> impacts and since the pipeline has been removed, the residual hydrocarbons are not <br /> anticipated to pose a threat to the beneficial use of groundwater in the area. <br /> • Total dissolved solids up to 3,000 mgll have been documented at nearby Mountain <br /> House projects and the City of Tracy; use of the shallow groundwater in Tracy is <br /> prohibited for domestic or municipal use by municipal Code for reasons unrelated to the <br /> OVP; use of the groundwater at the property does not present an environmental <br /> concern. <br /> California Environmental Protection Agency <br /> cpi Recycled Paper <br />
