These two projects are separated by <br /> approximately 700 feet along the former Old Valley Pipeline (OVP) right-of-way adjacent to <br /> Byron Road, and one-quarter mile southeast of Kelso Road. The OVP previously transported <br /> crude oil and Bunker C fuel oil between Kern County oil fields and refineries in the Richmond <br /> area until the 1970's. <br /> According to an investigation at the Mountain House Site #1, located approximately one-half <br /> mile southeast of Sites #4 and 5, the former OVP pipeline has been removed at that location. <br /> File information suggests the pipeline has also been removed at Sites #4 and #5. <br /> The purpose of the investigation was to: a) assess and delineate affected soil identified by the <br /> Condor borings; b) assess and/or delineate affected groundwater, if any, identified by the <br /> previous and current investigations; and, c) based on the investigation results, recommend <br /> additional work. <br /> Background <br /> Additionally, I reviewed a November 2001 soil and groundwater investigation completed for <br /> Trimark Communities, Inc. by Condor Earth Technologies. The Condor investigation identified <br /> separate locations along the former OVP, including Mountain House Sites #4 and #5 that had <br /> been impacted by OVP leaks. The borings were placed along the edge of Byron Road and/or <br /> within the former and/or current pipeline corridor rights-of-way. Site #5 is approximately one <br /> quarter mile southeast of Kelso Road intersection and Site #4 is further southeast (along <br /> Byron Road). <br /> At Site #4, TPH as crude oil (TPHc) concentrations at 3,600 mg/kg and 13,000 mg/kg was <br /> reported in two Condor borings between 8 and 16 feet (GP-53 and GP-180). Similarly, TPHc <br /> at 65 mg/kg (at 12 feet in GP-183) and 7,600 mg/kg (at 16 feet in GP-64) at Site #5. <br /> Groundwater was encountered between 8 and 17 feet, but was not sampled. <br /> California Environmental Protection Agency <br /> Ca Recycled Paper <br />
