Box 6012 <br /> San Ramon, CA 94583-0712 <br /> THIRD QUARTER 2004 GROUNDWATER CLEANUP PROGRESS REPORT- MOUNTAIN <br /> HOUSE CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT,MOUNTAIN HOUSE, SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br /> We have reviewed the Mountain House Treatment System, 2004 July-November 2004 Performance <br /> Report, Mountain House Creek Reconstruction Project document dated 6 January 2005. The document <br /> was prepared for ChevronTexaco by Science Applications International Corporation(SAIC). <br /> The report was prepared in accordance with the Monitoring and Reporting Program (MRP) under <br /> General Order No. R5-2003-0044,Land Disposal of Groundwater of Surface Water from Cleanup of <br /> Petroleum Pollution (General Order). The General Order and Notice of Applicability No. R5-2003- <br /> 004414 were approved by Regional Board staff 22 July 2004. The"Reporting" section of the MRP <br /> specifies that Quarterly reports be submitted by the 30th day of the month following the end of the <br /> calendar quarter. The report summarizes the results of analysis and progress of the stream restoration <br /> project since treatment system startup in latter July 2004 through the end of the third quarter, 31 October <br /> 2004 (Q3 2004). <br /> The Q3 2004 monitoring report summarizes analytical results of samples obtained from groundwater <br /> extracted during startup, daily, weekly, and monthly sampling events. Groundwater was extracted from <br /> dewatering wells associated with the construction of a replacement crossing for Mountain House Creek. <br /> According to the report groundwater from the dewatering wells passes through various sediment settling <br /> tanks with removal of petroleum hydrocarbons accomplished using granular activated carbon (GAC) for <br /> final treatment of the groundwater. Under specifications provided in the General Order, the treated <br /> wastewater is discharged to a vacant agricultural field(Field G) located west of the project site. <br /> We have the following comments to the report: <br /> According to the report, through the end of the quarter, approximately 21 million gallons of groundwater <br /> have been treated and discharged to Field G.
