Chevron <br /> Chevron <br /> August 17, 2001 3 )nmentaf Management <br /> D �� <br /> fyon Road <br /> 583-0712 <br /> Mr. Jack Harbour �' rich <br /> Eco:Logic Manager <br /> 341 <br /> 3875 Atherton Road Suite 1 i-0213 <br /> Rocklin, California 95765 <br /> Excavation of Petroleum-Affected Soils <br /> Chevron Bruns and Byron Roads Site IF <br /> Raw Water Transmission Line <br /> Mountain House Community <br /> San Joaquin County, California <br /> Dear Mr. Harbour: <br /> In response to the discussions of the August 9, 2001 meeting regarding the planned Mountain <br /> House Community project Raw Water Transmission Line(MERWTL), Chevron Environmental <br /> Management Company(Chevron) is confirming its understanding of the role that Chevron will <br /> assume during MHRWTL trenching and excavation activities within Chevron's Bruns and Byron <br /> Roads site (the Bruns site). <br /> The Bruns site is located in the vicinity of the Mountain House (MHRWTL) station 70+00, <br /> approximately 2000 feet southwest of Bruns Road. Information pertaining to the environmental <br /> activities at the Bruns site were transmitted to Trimark Communities (Trimark) in September <br /> 2000 (investigation report) and January 2001 (soil management plan). Chevron understands that <br /> construction trenching activities will cross through approximately 200 linear feet of petroleum- <br /> affected soil at the Bruns site along the northeast side of the railroad tracks. <br /> It is Chevron's understanding that Trimark, Byron Bethany Irrigation District (BBID), and <br /> Teichert Construction (Teichert) have concluded that it is logistically and economically <br /> unfeasible to reuse petroleum-affected soil within MHRWTL trench backfill and have requested <br /> that the soil be removed for off-site disposal. Based on the August 9, 2001 meeting discussion, it <br /> is Chevron's understanding that petroleum-affected soil will be excavated and stockpiled as part <br /> of Teichert's construction activities and that soil will be placed on plastic sheeting and, if <br /> necessary, will be covered for dust and erosion control. Additionally, it is our understanding that <br /> Trimark and/or BBID will identify and arrange for a suitable stockpile location affiliated with <br /> Mountain House construction activities within San Joaquin County. Once excavation within the <br /> Bruns site area is completed, Chevron will perform sampling, testing, and removal of the Bruns <br /> site petroleum-affected soil stockpile.
