(AGE) and has the following comments .
The Report documents continued investigation of the vertical and lateral extent of the
petroleum hydrocarbon contamination in both soil and groundwater at this site. One CPT
boring and two soil borings for sample collection,: and two deep groundwater monitoring
wells (MW-1 C and MWA D) were installed . Analytical results indicate the plume is not
defined vertically, or laterally at depth . In the Report AGE recommends , if contaminant
concentrations reported in the new deep wells remains the same or increase , a monitoring
well built to total depth of approximately 200 feet below surface grade (bsg) down gradient
of the former tank pit area should_ be installed .
SJC/EHS agrees with the AGE recommendation ; at least one deep groundwater
monitoring well should be installed downgradient from the source area, and possibly one
upgradient, near MW-2, also. However, as the reported concentrations of contaminants in
MW-1 C and MW-1 D were significantly lower the second time they were monitored and
sampled , SJC/EHD recommends waiting two more quarters before proceeding with
further investigation . MWA C and MW-1 D were installed in the source area, it is possible
that some cross contamination occurred during the installation process . A more accurate
assessment of the concentration of contaminants at depth will likely be possible after
these wells have been purged and sampled a couple of more times.
If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran , REHS, Director
Environmental Health Department
/ZKO a5V44"rI
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Nuel C.
