M
Site Background Information : Stallworth Auto Sales
Page 2 of 11
northern end of the property. Approximate locations of the former fuel USTs are shown on
Figure 2 .
After removal , laboratory analysis of soil samples collected from the floor of the UST
excavations and dispensers areas detected total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPH-g) were reported in soil collected beneath the 3 , 000-gallon leaded UST at a
concentration of 13,400 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg); BTEX compounds were reported
at concentrations as high as 260 mg/kg . In addition , total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel
(TPH-d) was reported in the soil sample collected beneath the diesel UST at a
concentration of 29 mg/kg .
Background concentrations of total lead were detected in soil samples P-1 , P-2 , 3N and
3S . LUFT metals were detected in the soil sample collected beneath the former waste oil
UST at concentrations as high as 50 mg/kg (zinc).
PREVIOUS SITE ASSESSMENT AND SAMPLING
On 08 February 2000 , three soil probe borings (B- 1 through B-3 ) were advanced atthe site
as part of preliminary site assessment activities:
• TPH-g was detected in soil samples analyzed from probe borings B- 1 through B-3
at concentrations as high as 12 , 000 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg ) , TPH-d was
detected at concentrations as high as 4 , 900 mg/kg , and BTEX compounds were
detected at concentrations as high as 1 , 900 mg/kg respectively. The highest
benzene concentration encountered was 4 .2 mg/kg .
• One grab ground water sample collected from B- 1 was analyzed for TPH-g , TPH-d ,
BTEX and the suite of five fuel additives by EPA Method 8260 Modified . TPH-g and
TPH-d were detected in the grab ground water sample at concentrations of 425 ,000
micrograms per liter (Ng/1 ) and 9 , 900 pg/l , respectively. BTEX compounds were
detected at concentrations of 15 , 000 pg/I , 48 , 000 pg/I , 3 ,200 Ng/I , 55 , 000 pg/l ,
respectively. No fuel oxygenates were detected in the ground water sample
analysis .
On 23 and 24 May 2000 five ground water monitoring wells (MW- 1A, MW- 1 B and MW-2
through MW4) were installed at the site. MW- 1A and MW-2 are screened from 30 feet to
50 feet bsg , and MW- 1 B , MW-3 and MW-4 are screened from 20 feet to 40 feet bsg .
• A total of 13 soil samples were analyzed for TPH-g , TPH-d , BTEX and the suite of
five fuel additives by EPA Method 8260 Modified .
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
