Water and soil
samples collected from Cone Penetrometry Test(CPT) investigative borings evidenced petroleum
contamination_ Groundwater samples collected from CPT#2 evidenced Methyl tertiary-butyl
ether(MTBE) at 199 parts per billion (ppb) in soil and 412 ppb in groundwater. Data from CPT
92 indicates that MTBE contaminated groundwater is migrating off site. The off site migration of
petroleum contaminants should be further evaluated and mitigated.
PHS/EHD also reviewed the Quarterly Monitoring Report(QMR)dated September 9, 1999 for
the above referenced site. Groundwater sampling data does not reflect decreasing or stabilized
petroleum contaminant concentrations at this site. Continue quarterly monitoring of all MWs
until otherwise directed by PHS/EHD.
Feasibility tests should be conducted in order to compare at least two different remediation
alternatives for this site. A Work Pian to evaluate off site migration and to propose remediation
alternative studies for the contamination at this site should be submitted to PHS/EHD by January
225, 22000.
