r PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES <br /> 'SAN JOAQU�i f COUINTY <br /> E.NL IRONNENTAL HEALTH DFVISION <br /> Karen Frust, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officers <br /> 304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor - Stockton, CA 95202 <br /> 209/468-3420 <br /> SEP 25 W <br /> To Whom It May Concern <br /> ANALYSIS REQUIRED FOR OXYGENATE COMPOUNDS <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHO) is under <br /> Local Oversight Program (LOP) contras:with the California State Water Resources Control <br /> Board (SWRCS) to provide oversight for the investigation and cleanup of unauthorized releases <br /> from underground storage tanks. This contract includes a provision for technical support by the <br /> California Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB). <br /> PHSIEHD has recently received a letter from the CVRWQCS that provides guidance on how to <br /> analyze for the oxygenated compounds in gasoline until a 'definitive protocol" can be <br /> established. Based on this letter, PHSIEHD is directing you to analyze samples from all of <br /> your monitoring wells for Tertiary Butyi Alcohol (TBA), Methyl Tertiary Sutyi Ether(MTBE), Di- <br /> isopropyl ether (DIPS), Ethyl Tertiary Butyl Ether(ETBE) and Tertiary Amyl Methyl Ether <br /> (TAME) by EPA method 8250. PHSIEHD will require analysis of samples for Methanol and <br /> Ethanol where there is reason to believe that hese compounds were stored in the underground <br /> tank(s). <br /> PHSIEHD requires quarterly sampling of all wells where the presence of oxygenates is <br /> confirmed by EPA method 8260. Modification of this required sampling such as number of wells <br /> sampled, sampling frequency and method of analysis may be granted only aver initial sample <br /> results are reviewed by PHSIEHD.
