APPENDIX A
REMEDIAL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
The Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) system was initiated on August 30, 2004 The SVE system treats soil
vapors A brief description and performance evaluation of the remedial systems between August 30, 2004
and September 23,2004 are presented below
SVE System Overview
The SVE system is comprised of 4 SVE wells (4 wells online VW-1B, VW-213, VW-3B and VW4) and
two 2,000-1b granular activated carbon (GAC) vessels in series as the primary treatment process for the
SVE system The SVE system is permitted by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District
(SJVAPCD) Authority to Construct Permit#N-5083-1-0 for operation until the Permit to Operate is issued
by SJVAPCD Initial sampling and flow data was submitted to SJVAPCD on September 28, 2004
Soil Vapor Extraction
SVE system influent data is presented in Table A-1 and a plot of soil vapor influent concentrations is
shown as Figure A-1 SVE system performance data is included in Tables A-1, A-2 and A-3 and extraction
well data is presented in Table A4 The destruction efficiency for this quarter averaged to 100%,which
complies with the SJVAPCD permit minimum destruction efficiency requirements of 95% The system
was shutdown on September 7, 2004 due to excessive noise issues It was noted during this site visit the
hour meter was not functioning properly The hour meter was replaced on September 23, 2004 The
following data is for the third quarter, 2004
• SVE operational uptime was 33 4% for the quarter Uptime was assumed to be 100%between start
up on August 30, 2004 and system shutdown on September 7, 2004
• System average flow rate was 95 0 standard cubic feet per minute SJVAPCD permit does not
specify a maximum flow rate
• Destruction efficiency was 100%, which complies with SJVAPCD permit requirement of 95%or
greater
93 6 pounds of gasoline was removed
• 2 4 pounds of MtBE was removed
• No benzene was removed due to non-detect influent concentrations
I
