Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Re: St. Joseph' s Medical Center, California
St- , Stockton, CA
Dear Mr. Inferna:
Enclosed please find laboratory results for the soil samples
collected on May 22, 1991 from the excavated soil stockpiled at
the referenced facility. Also enclosed ,is a table summarizing
the laboratory results and a map rhowiiig sample locations.
The volume of soil in the stockpile isapproximately 200 - 225
Cubic yards. On Mali22, 1.991 four div
szl
et samples were collect-
ed from the soil pile for laboratory anal Ysj_s- At our direction,
analysis was conducted for total petroleum hydrocarybons as diesel
(TPED) , benzene toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (STEM) , total
and soluble concentrations of 18 metals (Title 22 , TTLC and
STLC) , and 96 hour static acute LC50 alquatia toxicity. TPHD
concentration was found to average 238 harts per million (ppm) .
No aromatics were found in detectable concentrations.ions No metals
were found to exceed State TTLC or STI. . concentrations . Fish
survival. rate was 100% at a concentratjoof 750 ppm. The LC50,
therfore, is well over the regulatory tj reahold of 500 ppm and
the soil is not toxic.
As you may be aware, St. Joseph's is in the Process of construct-
ing a new parking lot in thearea where the soil is stockpiled.
This parking lot will have an asphalt ,Surface and will extend
11
from California St. on the west to cemete.'t-y Ln. on the east. The
south end of the lot will coincide with the current south side of
Wyandotte St. and the north end of the 'dot will be just to the
north of the soil stockpile. Eleanor Ritliff8 and I discussed
the possibility of utilizing the stockpil6d soil as base for the
asphalt parking lot .
Road Base' is typically sprayed with
diesel fuel prior to laying asphalt in order to inhibit weed
growth. The use of diesel contaminated soil for this purpose is
somewhat common. and provides a number of benefits over treatment
or disposal:
1710 MAIN STREET e ESCALON, CA 95320 0 (209.) 838-3507
2350-A WALSH AVENUE d SANTA CLARA.
