SAFETY OFFICER <br /> The Company Safety Officer reports to the Pacific Environmental Group, Inc (PEG) Senior <br /> Management and is responsible for assuring on-site safety and loss prevention functions <br /> Responsibilities include <br /> o Health surveillance of all PEG employees <br /> o Assuring that safety procedures in effect are in compliance with all <br /> appropriate federal, state, and company regulations <br /> o Maintenance of personnel exposure monitoring records <br /> o Assuring appropriate personal protective equipment is adequate for actual <br /> hazards of on-site conditions <br /> o Assuring appropriate exclusion areas are identified and delineated <br /> M3.4 JOB HAZARD ANALYSIS <br /> A. CHEMICAL HAZARDS <br /> The possible mayor contaminants to be encountered on the project are Petroleum <br /> Hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) It is not anticipated that VOC <br /> emissions in the direct breathing zone of personnel working around the monitoring wells or <br /> borings will be higher than background levels <br /> Inhalation and dermal (absorption) hazards are the mayor area of concern, regarding the <br /> exposure to VOCs Results of toxicological studies on animal exposure to pure <br /> concentrations of the VOCs that have been detected at the site are detailed in Handbook of <br /> Toxic and Hazardous Chemicals, by M Sittig (1981), and Dangerous Properties of <br /> Industrial Materials, by N Irving Sax (1984) An additional reference source used for the <br /> development of this Site Safety Plan is the Documentation of the Threshold Limit Values, <br /> published by the ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists, <br /> Inc ) <br /> • <br /> 2 <br />
