28 January 1998
AGE-NC Project No. 96-0232
2.4. GROUND WATER DEPTH AND GRADIENT
Historical ground water monitoring data collected at the site suggests that the water-table surface '
beneath the site occurs at a depth of approximately 14 feet below surface grade (bsg).
Based upon historical ground water monitoring events performed at the site, ground water flow
direction has generally been towards the north, southwest and southeast. However, ground water
flow direction may vary locally and/or seasonally.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
3.1. DRILLING AND SAMPLING
Initially,the scope of work includes the advancement of three soil borings to depths of 55 feet bsg;
collection of soil and ground water samples; and completion of each boring as a dual completed 2-
inch diameter ground water monitoring well. Following monitoring well completion, each well will
be developed and surveyed.
Soil borings will be advanced utilizing a truck-mounted,hollow stem drill rig and 10-inch diameter
hollow-stem augers. Cuttings and rinseate generated during drilling activities will be containerized
in properly labeled D.O.T. model 17H 55-gallon drums, and stored on-site in all area lacking public
access. Disposal alternatives will be evaluated based on results of soil analysis.
Soil samples will be collected at five-foot intervals beginning at a depth of 15 feet bsg using a
California split-spoon sampler and brass sleeves. The sampler will be driven by dropping a 140-
pound weight from a height of 30 inches. Upon soil sample retrieval, the middle brass sleeve will
be removed from the sampler. The ends of the brass sleeve will be immediately covered with teflon
tape or aluminum sheets, sealed with plastic end caps, secured with tape and immediately placed in
a chilled container for transportation to a State-certified laboratory. Each sample sleeve will be
labeled with the following: boring location, depth, time, date and sampler's initials.
Soils are to be described using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Soil sample
descriptions and PID screening results will be summarized on boring logs prepared for the final
report.
3.2. EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION
All sampling tools and brass sleeves used for sample collection will be thoroughly rinsed with clean
Advanced CeoEnvironmental,Inc.
