' 15 October 2000
AGE--NC Project No 96-0232 t
Page 4of15 ;
a ,
3 1 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
,Two soil borings/ground water extraction wells (EW-2 and EW-3) were advanced at the site for
' supplement the aquifer pump testing Soil boring EW-2 was advanced vertically to a depth of 35 feet
below surface grade (bsg) utilizing a CME-85 high-torque, truck-mounted drill ng equipped with
1'0'/4-inch diameter hallow-stem augers, soil boring EW-3 was advanced vertically to a depth of 50
feet bsg Soli cuttings were stockpiled on and covered by plastic sheeting in the northeast portion of
the site in an area lacking public access. The soil boring location is depicted m Figure 2
311 Logging `
' During drilling activities, soil samples were not collected for laboratory analysis or observation
Boring logs documenting the as-built well installations are included as Appendix D
3 12 Equipment Decontamination
• The hollow stem augers were steam cleaned prior to each bore hole advancement Following drilling,
,
rmseate generated from decontaminating the equipment was placed in properly labeled D O T -
' approved model 17H 55-gallon drums and was stored at the site in an area lacking public access
r
32 WELL COMPLETION
Soil bonngs EW-2 and EW-3 were single-completed'as ground water extraction wells utilizing
' schedule 40, 4-inch diameter blank polyvinylchloride (PVC) well casing and perforated, 4-inch
diameter PVC well casing (0 020-inch slot) G
1 The ground water extraction well was installed by placing a PVC well casing assembly through the
hollow stem of the augers to the total depth of the boring The augers were incrementally raised as
i No 3 Lonestar Lapis Luster sand(filter pack)was slowly poured down the annulus between the well
' casing and the inner wall of the hollow stem auger The filter pack was placed adjacent to the
screened casing from the bottom of the boring to a point approximately two feet above the top of the
' r screen, following filter pack placement, a surge block was inserted into the well casing and was
alternately raised and lowered(surged)repeatedly for approximately 20 minutes Approximately two
feet of bentonite pellets (transition seal) were placed above the filter pack and allowed to hydrate
' with clean tap water The remainuig annular space was backfilled with portland cement As-built
well-construction diagrams are included as Figures 3 and 4
r
Advanced GeoEavironmentai,Inc
