p
• 30 October 2004
AGE-NC Project No 96-0232
total dissolved solids, flow rate, specific conductivity (EC), pH and turbidity on 15 July 2004 In
addition, observations were noted in a log book (Appendix A) of floating or suspended matter,
discoloration,bottom deposits,aquatic life,visible film-sheen-coatings,fungi and potential nuisance
conditions
Water monitoring could not be performed from R-1 during the 15 July 2004 monthly monitoring
events because there was no upstream water flow Because there was no upstream flow at R-1, the
downstream flow rate at R-2 appeared to be equal to the ground water pump and treat effluent flow
rate of approximately 21 GPM
Observations logged in a notebook on the above dates indicated that there was no floating or
suspended matter, discoloration, bottom deposits or visible film-sheen-coatings at R-1/R-2,however
there was a small amount of algae growth at the bottom of the ditch Visible aquatic life at R-2
included minnows, insects and frogs Potential nuisance conditions observed at R-2 included trash
in ditch(i e fast food containers, paper and dry bush cuttings),no potential nuisance conditions were
observed at R-1
Utilizing an ICM water analyzer and a YSI-50 dissolved oxygen meter in the field, dissolved oxygen
was monitored at R-2 on the above date at a concentration of 4 84 mg/l, EC was recorded on the
same day from R-2 at 771 gmhos/cm and a pH value at 7 41
Laboratory analysis of the above R-2 grab water sample reported a turbidity value at a concentration
of 0 2 nephelometric turbidity units (NTUs) Field measurements are recorded in Appendix A,
laboratory reports are in Appendix B
2 7 MASS-VOLUME REMOVAL CALCULATIONS
Based on effluent flow meter observations(Appendix A, Table 5),approximately 885,468 gallons
of MTBE-impacted water were treated between 15 June and 17 August 2004, a total volume of
approximately 27,086,201 gallons of MTBE-impacted water has been treated at the site since the
start-up period in November 2000
The volume of extracted water between 15 June 2004 and 17 August 2004 was equal to 885,468
gallons, which equates to a volume of 3,355,924 liters of processed water Multiplying the average
MTBE concentration (assumed to be 47 gg/1 based on the July 2004 influent grab water samples)
by the pounds of extracted MTBE-impacted ground water yields approximately 0 35 pounds of
MTBE removed from MTBE-impacted ground water during this period (Appendix C)
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
