. 15 July 2002
AGE -NC Project No 96-0232
vertical gradient data for wells MW -9, MW -11 and MW -13 was depicted in cross section C -C'
(Figure 3), ground water elevations were plotted for the informal First Zone, Second Zone,
Secondary Aquifer Zone and Primary Aquifer Zone hydrogeologic flow units as defined. in AGE's
Final Remediation Plan (Figures 4 through 15)
On 13 and 14 June 2002, approximately 6 to 10 gallons of ground water (a mimmum of three casing -
water volumes per well) were evacuated (purged) from wells MW -1 through MW -7 utilizing either
disposable polyethylene bailers or a two-stage submersible pump, approximately 75 gallons of
ground water were purged from EW -3 utilizing a two-stage submersible pump Temperature, pH and
conductivity were measured for stabilization at regular purge -volume intervals from each well using
an Oakton water analyzer Field data and logs are provided in Appendix G Monitoring well purged
ground water was transferred to the ground water remediation system holding tank for treatment and
disposal
The multi-level monitoring wells MW -8 through MW -13 were purged utilizing a Watera-Hydro-Lift
II pump equipped with a mechanical arm by lowering and raising a 3/8 -inch outer diameter, length -
discrete polyethylene hose equipped with a ball-valve water tip through the top chambers into the
specific water -charged screened section Approximately 0 20 to 4 75 gallons of ground water (a
minimum of three casing -water volumes per well) were purged from the multi-level monitoring
wells Temperature, pH and conductivity were measured for stabilization at regular purge -volume
intervals from each well using an Oakton water analyzer Field data and logs are provided in
Appendix G Multi-level well purged ground water was transferred to the ground water remediation
system holding tank for treatment and disposal
3 2 GROUND WATER SAMPLING
Ground water samples were collected from the purged wells MW -1 through MW -7 and EW -3
utilizing new, 2-mch diameter disposable polyethylene bailers, ground water samples were collected
from the purged wells MW -8 through MW -13 utilizing %4 -inch diameter polyethylene tubing
Ground water samples were transferred into one -liter amber bottles without a preservative and into
40-m1 EPA -approved VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18% hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative
Care was taken to ensure that visible air bubbles were not present in the vials after filling and
capping Ground water sample containers were Iabeled with the well designation, date, time, and
sampler's initials
Ground water sample collection from municipal water wells CSA -1, CSA -2 and domestic water well
D W-1 was achieved by openmg a valve from each water well outlet sample port and allowing each
well pump to turn on and operate for a minimum of 15 minutes to purge the wells and then collecting
the running water directly into the sample containers
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc
