SITE SAFETY PLAN FOR SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
Shinko Electric America
551 Carnegie Street
Manteca, CA
I. INTRODUCTION
This plan describes the hazards associated with drilling bore holes and sampling soil and ground
water from the holes. The plan specifies the minimum requirements for personal protective
equipment and general safe work practices.
II. SITE LOCATION
The work site is located at 551 Carnegie Street, Manteca, California.
• III. JOB DESCRIPTION
A registered geologist and a licensed C-57 drilling rig will drill six bore holes at the site. Two
additional locations will be bored for soil samples which will be obtained at one foot and at five
feet. Soil and ground water samples will be prepared for shipment to an analytical laboratory.
IV. CHEMICAL HAZARDS
The chemical hazards at this site are limited to acid, caustic, silver, copper, and cyanide in the
soil or water. There is reduced risk of exposure due to the expected low level of contamination
in the matrices and due to the nature of the work tasks. However, employees will be required
to wear person protective equipment, as outlined in Section VI, to protect them from any possible
exposure to chemicals.
V. PHYSICAL HAZARDS
Physical hazards and the associated mitigation techniques are outlined in Table I.
• 1
ERICKSON, Inc.
Specialized Service to Industry Since 1942
