Weber Avenue
Third Floor
Stockton, CA 95202-2708
RE: Well Destruction
5225 E. Carpenter Road
Stockton, California
Dear Mr. Wong:
As per your request the following is the proposed well destruction methodology for two
monitoring wells located in the path of a City of Stockton South Stockton Aqueduct (pipeline).
One well has been damaged and is located in a bottom of a shallow pit and one is still
undamaged. The undamaged well is designated MW-3. Both monitoring wells are 4 inch
diameter PVC wells. The existing well was sounded, with depth to water at approximately 75
feet and the total depth greater than 100 feet. The well construction of the damaged well is
unknown. The bottom of the pipeline is to be constructed about 20 feet below surface grade.
The two monitoring wells will be tremmie grouted to the surface using a progressive cavity pump.
Tremmie grouting will be achieved by pumping a cement/bentonite slurry into each well until
filled. The wells will then be sealed using a plastic gasket and the hydraulic pressure from the
drilling rig (existing undamaged well). Additional cement/bentonite slurry will then be pumped
into each of the wells under pressure. The pressure will be maintained for approximately five
minutes to better increase infiltration of the grout into the filter pack and immediately adjacent
formation voids. A mushroom cap is not recommended due to the pipe line installation depth of
20 feet below ground surface.
52054.PW2/STOSL212 Page l oft
®2005 Kleinfelder,Inc.
